Portland Trail Blazers

One lucky Maryland native is now driving around in a pretty sweet new ride all thanks to Trail Blazers veteran and Maryland native Carmelo Anthony.

Melo partnered with ‘Gettacar’, which is an online car buying platform that delivers cars in the Baltimore, Maryland area and throughout the East Coast. It's a Philadelphia based company.

Wednesday, the 10-time All-Star gifted a 2017 Mazda CX3 to Shalita Addison, who is the mother of a Mount St. Mary’s College basketball player Taylor Addison.

The connection with Taylor Addison?

She grew up a huge fan of Melo’s and says, that it was him who inspired her to go on and play college basketball.

According to local news outlets in the Baltimore area, Shalita is a single mom. Her most previous car had broken down recently, making it tough for her not only to commute to work, but to watch her daughter play basketball.

But that has all changed thanks to the Future Hall of Famer and the gift of a 2017 Mazda CX3.

Shalita told Baltimore’s WMAR 2 News that being gifted the car was a blessing similar to her daughter playing college basketball at Mount St. Mary’s College.

“I’m so grateful. Sometimes you don’t think that prayer works, but raising her and then she gets a D1 scholarship, just the odds of that are just like, you know what I mean? It makes you just keep pursuing your dreams and sometimes everything doesn’t workout, but like they always will.”

WATCH the heartwarming moment

After the Blazers dropped their final road game of their current five-game trip, Melo talked about gifting the car.

We partnered up and gave a car for the Holidays. We surprised a family who really needed it, and we made somebody’s holiday. We made a family happy, made some wishes come true. It’s a great feeling when you can do something like that and help a family out. It always put things in perspective when you see the impact that has on people. – Trail Blazers veteran Carmelo Anthony

Melo and his business partner in his tech firm, Melo7 Tech Partners, were happy to partner with the new startup company, Getacar.

Anthony added, “Gettacar stepped up to the challenge and they delivered.”
