Dame and CJ expected to play 30+ minutes in preseason finale
A quick recap of the preseason
The Portland Trail Blazers wrap-up the exhibition season on Friday night when the Sacramento Kings visit Moda Center.
The Blazers are 2-2 heading into the final preseason game of the year after beating the Suns, 116-83 on Wednesday night behind Jake Layman’s 28 points.
The Kings are 1-3 this preseason after losing to the Utah Jazz on Thursday night at home, 132-93. Sacramento got out to a slow start and was outscored 39-10 in the first quarter.
Blazers head coach Terry Stotts told the media this week that he would like to play both Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum 30+ minutes after resting the two on Wednesday vs. the Suns. Coach Stotts says he wants to have the Blazer backcourt duo go through a “real game” run before the regular season tips off on October 18th at home vs. the Los Angeles Lakers.
This is a very young Kings team, who are stockpiling talent for the future.
Twelve of the 16 current players on Sacramento’s roster are under the age of 25.
The Kings drafted power forward Marvin Bagley III as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. In free agency, Sacramento made a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Ben McLemore and Deyonta Davis. The Kings also acquired Yogi Ferrell and Nemanja Bjelica.
For the Blazers, Portland added more players to help space the floor after retaining Jusuf Nurkic, Wade Baldwin, and Jake Layman.
Portland drafted 19-year-old Anfernee Simons as the No. 24 pick and 19-year-old Gary Trent Jr. (via trade) with the 37th pick. In free agency, the Blazers signed Seth Curry and Nik Stauskas to one-year deals.
UPDATED: Trail Blazers PR has now listed forward Maurice Harkless (left knee) as OUT for Friday's contest. Forward Evan Turner (left shoulder) is still PROBABLE. Rookie Gary Trent Jr. will sit OUT vs. the Kings due to a right quad injury.
Kings small forward/shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic (left knee) will be OUT vs. the Blazers. He is getting better, but is still a few weeks away from returning to the court, that’s according to James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area.
