Hello again, Phoenix
A quick recap of the preseason
The Portland Trail Blazers have two games remaining in their preseason slate with the Suns in town on Wednesday and then the Kings will make a trip to Portland on Friday.
The Blazers are 1-2 with the most recent loss coming on Sunday night to the Jazz, 123-112. Portland got off to a quick start vs. Utah, leading 92-84 heading into the third quarter, but the 2nd unit was unable to hold the lead in the final quarter.
Wednesday’s contest will be the Suns fourth and final preseason game. The Suns are 1-2 this preseason with losses to the Blazers and Kings. Phoenix is coming of a 117-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night.
In the Blazers and Suns first meeting of the exhibition season, Portland won 115-93 behind Jusuf Nurkic’s 16 points and nine rebounds.
The draft was king for the Suns this offseason.
Phoenix ended up with four rookies on draft night including number one overall pick Deandre Ayton, a center from the University of Arizona, along with wings Mikal Bridges and two-way contract player George King as well. Point guard Elie Okobo was picked up in the second round.
Besides draft night, it was a fairly quiet offseason for Phoenix, but the Suns did snag a nice free agency signing of veteran Trevor Ariza on a one-year contract.
For the Blazers, Portland added more players to help space the floor after retaining Jusuf Nurkic, Wade Baldwin, and Jake Layman.
Portland drafted 19-year-old Anfernee Simons as the No. 24 pick and 19-year-old Gary Trent Jr. (via trade) with the 37th pick. In free agency, the Blazers signed Seth Curry and Nik Stauskas to one-year deals.
Small forward Maurice Harkless (left knee) has missed the first three preseason games after rehabbing his left knee and then dealing with a left ankle sprain.
According to Blazers PR, Harkless has been upgraded to PROBABLE for Wednesday’s contest. Harkless told the media after Tuesday’s practice that his knee feels good, but he is still dealing with some pain in his ankle.
***UPDATE: Both Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum will sit OUT vs. the Suns to rest.
Forward Evan Turner is listed as OUT vs. the Suns as he deals with a left shoulder sprain. Blazers rookie Gary Trent Jr. is also OUT due to a right quad injury.
Phoenix has listed Darrel Arthur (personal reasons), Devin Booker (right hand), and Mikal Bridges (left elbow) as OUT for Wednesday’s game.
