The Trail Blazers held their annual Fan Fest event tonight, this year at Memorial Coliseum. The intrasquad scrimmage is a fun fan event and a first glimpse at the new players on the roster. Here are three quick takeaways from the event from the NBC Sports team that was on site for the game. The Gray Team won a close one 48-44.
Dwight Jaynes, Insider: Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum look game ready. That's a really good sign for early October. That said, it wasn't a great picture of this team as a whole without Zach Collins and Hassan Whiteside out on the floor, so we'll have to wait and see how that pans out once they are fully healthy. Also, Kent Bazemore is going to be a very valuable player off the bench.
Jamie Hudson, Reporter: Kent Bazemore was going all out especially on the defensive end. Bazemore and CJ McCollum we’re battling for most of the first half and Bazemore said that’s nothing new. There was no quit in Bazemore and the Black Team. It was apparent from sitting on the bench that this team wanted the bragging rights of taking home the win.
Chris Burkhardt, Producer: It's hard to take too much away from Fan Fest, but that doesn't make the event any less important. It's a chance for fans to show up and get up close to their favorite team, but it's still just a glorified scrimmage. That being said, I thought the team looked good. The new guys were comfortable and Kent Bazemore was the star. He was hitting shots with ease and showed some really good hands on defense. Also, I love Jaylen Hoard. He will likely spend the entire season in the G-League, but he has a bright future should he tap his potential. He gave fans a glimpse with a few nice passes and dunks on Sunday.
Up Next: The Blazer host the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night at 7:30pm as they open up their preseason.
Check back throughout tonight and tomorrow for more articles and videos from the players as we wrap up with postgame Fan Fest coverage!
