Live on NBCS Northwest: Three-game homestand starts for Trail Blazers
A quick recap of last season and this preseason so far
The Trail Blazers are coming off a 115-93 win over the Suns on Friday after jumping out to a 30-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. Portland is 1-1 in the preseason as the Blazers now begin a three-game homestand to close out the exhibition season (all games liveon NBCS Northwest). The homestand tips off with the Jazz visiting the Moda Center on Sunday.
Utah is 3-0 in preseason with wins over Australian professional basketball team-- the Perth Wildcats, as well as the Toronto Raptors and the Adelaide 36ers.
In the Jazz most recent win vs. the 36ers on Friday, Donovan Mitchell scored 18 points.
The Trail Blazers will close out the preseason with the Suns coming to town Wednesday followed by a game against the Kings on Friday.
It was a quiet offseason for the Jazz. Utah drafted Duke guard Grayson Allen as the No. 21 overall pick and then after the draft it was all about continuing to keep Utah’s core players together.
The Jazz re-signed free agents Derrick Favors, Dante Exum and Raul Neto, while also guaranteeing contracts for Thabo Sefolosha and Ekpe Udoh.
Utah did, however, waive Jonas Jerebko before his contract became guaranteed.
For the Blazers, Portland added more players to help space the floor after retaining Jusuf Nurkic, along with Wade Baldwin and Jake Layman.
Portland drafted 19-year-old Anfernee Simons as the No. 24 pick and 19-year-old Gary Trent Jr. (via trade) with the 37th pick. In free agency, the Blazers signed Seth Curry and Nik Stauskas to one-year deals.
Small forward Maurice Harkless (left knee) has missed the first two preseason games, but according to Blazers PR, Harkless has been upgraded to PROBABLE for Sunday’s contest vs. Jazz.
Forward Evan Turner is listed as QUESTIONABLE for Sunday's game. It was revealed on Friday night in Phoenix after the win over the Suns that Turner suffered a left shoulder sprain prior to the start of training camp.
For the Jazz, Donovan Mitchell suffered a left foot injury during the final game of last season's playoffs vs. the Rockets and has been seen icing that foot this preseason, but according to Roto World Mitchell has said his foot is not an issue.
Rudy Gobert sat out to rest on Friday night against Adelaide.
