After the Moda Center announced that they will be postponing events through April 8 to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Moda Center said it will be donating excess food that would have otherwise gone unused to a good cause.
An announcement posted to Twitter on Saturday explained that the Moda Center and food and beverage partner Levy Restaurants have donated 2,800 pounds of food to Urban Gleaners due to recently canceled events.
Today along with our friends at @LevyRestaurants we donated 2,800 pounds of food to @urbangleaners that would have otherwise gone to waste due to recently canceled events. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/OtggD7hbXM— Moda Center (@ModaCenter) March 14, 2020
Urban Gleaners was started in 2006 in effort to deliver good, edible food to the Portland community that would otherwise be thrown away. Now, the donation from the Moda Center and Levy Restaurants will help put food in the hands of those who need it, as quickly as possible.
When times are challenging, it’s good to see the Portland community come together for a good cause. So many Portland families will benefit from this thoughful gesture.
