Olshey turns eyes to playoff success
Olshey joins the Dwight and Aaron Show
Trail Blazers GM and President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey joined the Dwight and Aaron show to talk about his plans for the Blazers this offseason, how he views this roster, and what he intends to do with the No.24 pick. Here are some of the best quotes from the interview...
On how Zach Collins compares to the bigs in this year's draft:
“I think Zach came out at the right time. He capitalized on a great run. He had a really good year. His age was intriguing… I put him up against any of those guys today, after basically going through an entire year in the NBA, playing significant minutes, and playing against guys like Anthony Davis certainly accelerated his growth curve."
On his focus for improving the roster this offseason:
“It’s more of an eye towards playoff basketball rather than regular season and how do we get into the playoffs."
On playoff loss to Pelicans opening eyes:
“The way that series went provided a really clear lens as far as what we need to do this offseason to build the roster to avoid that in the future… The focus needs to be shifted towards guys we know hit certain benchmarks and have bodies of work that we can rely on when we get into April.”
On using No.24 to take need vs. taking the best player available:
“I think it’s about adding talent. I think when you’re in a market like ours where it’s far more difficult to buy your way out of trouble in terms free agency, you have to find your talent through the draft… talent figures it out. It finds a way.
