Once again, Las Vegas doesn't believe in the Trail Blazers
Las Vegas oddsmakers have been busy preparing for the NBA season. The 2018-19 NBA Win Total projections have been released for all 30 teams.
Per the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook, the Golden State Warriors lead the way, of course, with an over/under of 62.5 wins. The LeBron James led Lakers are slated at 48.5.
The sportbook has the Trail Blazers (41.5) not making the playoffs this upcoming season.
Here are the top West win totals per Westgate: GS: 62.5, Hou: 54.5, OKC 50.5, LAL and UTA: 48.5, Den: 47.5, NO: 45.5, Minn: 44.5, SA: 43.5, and Por at 41.5.
Let's take a dive into the reactions and some thoughts on this 41.5 Over/Under number...
Paging Damian Lillard...
As you can imagine, the Blazers themselves thought that number was low. CJ McCollum was eager to share the Vegas odds with his teammate after seeing the graphic on twitter that has Portland missing the playoffs.
In Rip City, fans know Dame plays better with a chip on his shoulder, and CJ knows it as well.
But Dame and CJ weren't the only Trail Blazers to take notice...
Everyone loves Angry Nurk
CJ wasn't the only one to take to twitter after the odds were released. Jusuf Nurkic had some fun with the Vegas over-unders. Blazer fans were reacting with the hashtag-- #AlwaysSleeping.
These win total projections are in need of a return of hashtag-- #They on twitter with the national media not giving any respect to Portland and I might have to disagree with them...
Show Me The Money
Of course, a majority of the Blazer fans are taking the over on this bet and now that I’m a betting expert, (wink, wink) and thinking about how this team hasn’t got 7.5 games worse in my mind from last year… I’d say yes, the Blazers will win more than this early projection.
But hey, I get it, Vegas probably isn’t going to respect the Blazers until Portland can make some postseason noise. That won't stop Trail Blazer fans from chiming in though...
Chad Doing is fired up
If you’re a fan of ‘Rip City Drive’ you know that Chad Doing of Rip City Radio 620 gets a tad bit fired up when Portland doesn’t get the recognition he thinks they deserve. Chad had this to say about the 41.5 win projection:
“Total disrespect. Just like usual for Portland—no one cares, no one pays attention. We had a darn near MVP last year and a team that challenged for 49 wins and this year the back end of the rotation is better and Zach Collins is going to be getting more minutes. I understand the West is going to be more challenging with some of the player movement, but the Blazers still with their continuity and the roster coming back, no question they will challenge, just like they did last year, once again for 50 wins.”
