Welcome to The Scoop Journal, where every week I empty my notebook of wide ranging Trail Blazer thoughts, observations, and randomness. I hope you enjoy this light-hearted weekly blog... October 24th, 2018
Dear Scoop Journal,
It’s time for the first road trip of the season and what better time to write down all my random Trail Blazers thoughts for the week than on the flight to Orlando!
*Really curious to see when Heat fans show up to the arena and how long they stay for the game… Oh, I’m getting a head of myself. ***NOTE TO SELF*** Check in on this for game 2 of the trip. (Sorry Heat fans but this is what I remember about you the last time I was in South Beach).
*The Trail Blazers, or more specifically Evan Turner, should win an award for their Halloween costumes that they wore before Monday’s game. Apparently, ET bought them for the team. Lillard had the Steve Austin strut down! And, maybe it’s because I’m a big fan of Beauty and the Beast, but Nurkic as the Beast was pretty phenomenal.
*It’s a homecoming for rookie Anfernee Simons in Florida. And it looked like a very cool moment for him on Wednesday as he had his high school number retired at Edge Water High School.
*Before Monday’s game vs. the Wizards I’ve never heard so many “butt hurt” jokes in my life, but that’s to be expected with Dwight Howard sidelined with a “gluteal soreness.” Thanks twitter peeps for keeping me entertained.
*The Magic are coming off an impressive win over the Celtics. I saw a tweet from Preston Ellis of BR that said Orlando’s defensive rating is 70.6 and leads the league by far. That was with Grant, Ross, Simmons, Gordon, and Bamba on the court. So that’s with second unit guys on the court plus Aaron Gordon.
*FOOD NOTE: Looking forward to going to the Waffle House on this road trip.
*Trail Blazers super fan Renee is on my flight to Orlando. She’s excited to go to the Orlando, Miami and Indiana game. She told me that making a trip to all of 31 NBA arenas is on her bucket lists and these will be number 14, 15, and 16. She'll be halfway there after this trip. It’s always fun chatting with Blazer fans, especially on the road!
*There were two flights getting ready to board at my gate in PDX—One to Orlando and one to Maui. I looked up the temps in Maui. Yes, I contemplated getting on that flight and then thought what if there was an NBA team in Maui. NBA expansion team? What do you say Adam Silver? I bet that arena would go straight to the top of Rene’s bucket list. I’ll have to ask her.
