While Trail Blazers fans can’t sip some cold beer while watching Rip City’s finest on the court at Moda Center, they’ll now have another way to represent the home team.
Deschutes Brewery has teamed up with the Portland Trail Blazers to create a custom co-branded beer for the fans in Rip City. The brew, known as Rip City Lager, will feature featuring plaid cans in salute to the late Jack Ramsay, the Trail Blazers' longtime coach who led the team to the NBA title in 1977.
“Deschutes has been an Oregon staple for over 30 years, and we’re honored to be a part of their journey,” said Chris McGowan, President and CEO of the Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter. “From the name to the can design to the packaging, the Rip City Lager doesn’t miss a detail and is a perfect partnership for our of-age fans.”
There will two designs of the Rip City Lager, “home” and “away” jersey cans. They will be available in 6 packs, 12 packs and 24 packs in the market.
“We’re ecstatic that the Trail Blazers get to restart the 2019-20 season,” said Neal Stewart, VP of Sales and Marketing for Deschutes. “As lifelong Trail Blazers fans, all of us at Deschutes are so proud of this partnership and the opportunity to share the official Rip City Lager with fellow fans to celebrate our beloved Pacific Northwest team.”
The Rip City Lager features Lemondrop, Crystal and Hallertau Mittlefruh hops and is 4.8% ABV and 20 IBU. It will be available on draft at Deschutes Pubs and Bend Tasting Room in August, then in 6pk, 12pk, 24pk and 19.2oz tallboys at select locations in Oregon and Washington in September. One sip and you will fall in love.
Sit back, enjoy a Rip City Lager, and cheer your Trail Blazers on from the comfort of your own home as the ninth-seeded squad eyes the last playoff spot in the West. NBC Sports Northwest will carry all eight of Portland's regular-season games.
