With winning streaks on the line, it's time to #BeatLA
The LeBron show comes to town
Yes, it’s the first game of the season for LeBron James in a Lakers uniform and the national media is in full force here in Portland. This is a nationally televised game with all eyes on how King James will transform this young Lakers team.
The streaks are on the line
Portland will look to keep two winning streaks alive on Thursday night. The Blazers have won 17 straight home openers and 15 straight over the Lakers that dates back to the 2014 season.
A tribute to Paul Allen
It will be an exciting, but also somber tone at the Moda Center for opening night. The Blazers will focus on honoring team owner Paul G. Allen, who passed away on Monday. The team’s uniforms will have a special patch with a rose and Allen’s initials in his honor.
You already know the moves Portland made this offseason with the drafting of Anfernee Simons and Gary Trent Jr. Plus the free agency additions of Nik Stauskas and Seth Curry.
But for the Lakers, only seven players returned from last year's team and with the edition of LeBron James, the team looks entirely different than anything we've seen.
LA added Michigan big man Mortiz Wagner with the #25 overal pick (although he is out with an injury). The key moves came in free agency: LA re-signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and signed JaVale McGee, Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, and Michael Beasley as free agents.
Can the new-look Lakers gel right out of the gate? We will soon find out...
Forward Maurice Harkless (left knee) didn't play at all during the Trail Blazers five-game preseason and is currently listed as probable for Thursday's game. He told the media on Wednesday his knee is feeling good and he has been preparing to play.
For Los Angeles...
Alex Caruso (right hip) and Moritz Wagner (left knee) are out for the Lakers.
