Beavers fans, mark your calendars because you got a really special opportunity coming your way.
According to Nick Daschel of the Oregonian, Oregon State Football plans to play its 2022 game against Montana State here in Portland.
With Reser Stadium's west side planned to be under construction at the time, the Beavers will move the planned September 17th, 2022 matchup against the Bobcast to Providence Park, the home of the Portland Timbers and Thorns.
“We have such a large alumni base in Portland that we think this is a wonderful opportunity for our university to engage our alumni,” Barnes told Daschel.
Playing in Portland is nothing new, but you have to go way back in the history books to find the last time it happened. The Beavers last played in Portland in 1986 in a game against the UCLA Bruins.
For those with a good memory, you may recall that on seven different occasions the annual Oregon-Oregon State rivalry game has also been played in Portland. The last time that happened was in 1952, a 22-19 victory for Oregon State. That was the last time the Ducks and Beavers faced off outside of Corvallis or Eugene.
A 2019 renovation of Providence Park pushed the max capacity to 25,218. For comparison, Reser Stadium holds 43,154. So Providence is highly likely to sell out quickly for the event.
Details remain scarce at this point, but you can rest assured that it will be one heck of an event for the Portland-based members of Beaver Nation.
