The Seahawks season has concluded, and while there are still teams playing to win all the marbles, Seattle is already looking towards the future. As we shift our focus to the 2021 NFL Season, it’s clear that not all of our favorites will be back on the roster next season. The Seahawks have just over $17 million in cap space for 2021, according to OvertheCap.com, so some hard decisions will have to be made.

Seattle now has 24 players who are set to become unrestricted free agents. They will officially become UFAs when the new league year begins on March 17. While they can’t sign with other teams until that date, they can still re-sign with Seattle.

Here’s a look a 7 players that may not be back next season.

Considering Pete Carroll’s desires to have a more run-heavy approach in 2021, the running backs group will be one of the most intriguing areas to watch this offseason.

Seattle’s top two rushers, Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde, are set to become free agents. This leaves Seattle with 2018 first-round pick Rashaad Penny, 2019 sixth-round pick Travis Homer and 2020 fourth-round pick DeeJay Dallas.

Carson is coming off a 2020 season with 681 rushing yards, 287 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns. His production dipped last season due to Seattle’s increase in the passing game and a foot injury which sidelined him for four games. Staying healthy has been a problem for Carson over the years.

Now that Carson’s rookie contract is expiring, the 2017 seventh-round pick could be in for a big payday. But can Seattle afford to retain their starting RB? Spotrac lists Carson’s market value at around $7.4 million per year.

Seattle could elect to bring back Carlos Hyde as a more affordable option. The 30-year-old running back rushed for 356 yards and four touchdowns.

Veteran linebacker K.J. Wright is certainly a player that warrants consideration for a new deal next season.

The Seahawks' longest-tenured player put together one of the best seasons of his NFL career. Wright, a fourth-round pick by Seattle in 2011, recorded 82 tackles (56 solo), two sacks, one interception, and tied Jamal Adams with a team-high 11 tackles for loss in 2020.

Wright hasn’t ruled out a return to Seattle next season, but he also knows his future with the Seahawks is in the hands of Pete Carroll and John Schneider.

“That’s up to Pete and John,” Wright said. “They know how much I mean to this team. They know that I’m a baller. They know I’m a great teammate, a great leader. It would be great investment, in my opinion, if they invest in K.J. and to bring him back in the building.

"I love this city. I love this team, and so just make it happen."

Greg Olsen has likely played his last game in the NFL.

Despite suffering a torn plantar fascia in his left foot in Week 11, Olsen made a remarkable recovery returning to the field in less than a month. He caught 24 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown in his one-year with the Seahawks.

Olsen has signed a deal to be the No. 2 NFL television analyst for FOX Sports after he retires. With that said, he’s unlikely to put retirement on the back-burner for another season. Never say never though.

While Shaquill Griffin hopes to be a Seahawk forever, he is also aiming for a massive payday following the conclusion of his four-year rookie contract.

Seattle opted not to give Griffin a contract extension in 2019 after he posted a team-high 13-passes defended to go along with 65 tackles and earned his first Pro Bowl nod as an alternate. In 12 games this season, Griffin tallied 63 tackles (53 solo) and three interceptions for Seattle in 12 games.

Quinton Dunbar is also a free agent who is coming off a rough first season in Seattle that ended with knee surgery. The Seahawks could elect to re-sign Dunbar as a more affordable option if he can return to his 2019 regular-season form from his days with the Washington Football Team.

After what was supposed to be a storybook reunion between Bruce Irvin and the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, Irvin suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 2 against the New England Patriots.

The 33-year-old linebacker recently suffered a setback in his recovery process and had an additional surgery, as Pete Carroll revealed during exit interviews.

Irvin had said in a tweet that if he wasn’t returning to Seattle in 2021, “I’m calling it a career.”

Prior to reuniting with the Seahawks in 2020 on a one-year deal, Irvin had a career-high 8.5 sacks in 13 games with 12 starts for the Carolina Panthers in 2019. He added 36 combined tackles, 16 QB hits and a fumble recovery in his two games with Seattle prior to his ACL injury.

While Irvin will soon be an unrestricted free agent, it is unclear whether or not the Seahawks will re-sign him this offseason, as he may not be ready to take the field when the 2021 season begins.

Mike Iupati has quite possibly played his last NFL game. The guard has been mulling over the idea of hanging up his cleats for the past few years and not being able to stay healthy has been a rising concern.

For the second-consecutive year, Iupati was either unavailable or ineffective in the postseason due to injuries. The 33-year-old recorded 10 starts and 498 offensive snaps in 2020, but it might be time to call it a career.
