The NFL has approved the addition of a 17th regular-season game, marking the first time since 1978 that the league has changed the number of games in the regular season.

Adding an additional game leaves the door open for lots of changes to the single-season record books. Which of the Seattle Seahawks’ single-season records are in danger of being broken in 2021?

It should come as no surprise that Russell Wilson has dominated the passing game in the Seahawks' history. The top-tier QB holds the top five spots for most passing yards in a single season. Wilson threw for 4,219 yards in the 2016 season. This past year, he fell just seven yards short from beating his own record after tallying 4,212 passing yards.

While this offseason has put Wilson’s status with the Seahawks in question, things seem to be “trending in a good direction.” If Russ is the starter in Seattle come Week 1, he has a very real chance to beat his own passing yards record … yet again.

Though he didn’t top the chart in yards, Wilson’s 2020 season did break one passing record. In the Seahawks’ 16 games, Wilson passed for 40 touchdowns. This surpassed the 35 passing touchdowns in 2018, and the 34 in 2015 and 2017 -- all previous records held by Wilson himself.

Shaun Alexander holds the top two spots for most rushing yards in a single Seahawks season. The star running back ran for 1,880 rushing yards during his 2005 campaign. Doing so topped his own record -- Alexander had rushed for 1,696 yards in the previous season. The only other Seahawks player to come close in the 21st century was when Marshawn Lynch ran for 1,590 rushing yards in 2012.

Alexander’s 2005 season also holds the Seahawks’ record for most rushing touchdowns in a single season. That year, the legendary running back rushed for 27 touchdowns and demolished the previous record -- his own 16 rushing TDs in 2004 and 2002.

The 2020 season was also a good year for Seahawks players not named Russell Wilson.

Tyler Lockett’s 100 receptions tops Seattle’s charts for most in a single season. The Pro Bowl wide receiver beat out Doug Baldwin and Bobby Engram’s 94 receptions in their 2016 and 2007 campaigns, respectively.

In just his second year with Seattle, DK Metcalf set the mark for most receiving yards in a single Seahawks season with 1,303. Before Metcalf’s 2020 Pro Bowl campaign, Seattle’s franchise record hadn’t been broken since 1985, when Steve Largent recorded 1,287 receiving yards.

Doug Baldwin holds the record for most receiving touchdowns in a single Seahawks season with 14 in 2015. The only players on the Seahawks’ current roster to come close are Lockett and Metcalf, who each had 10 touchdown receptions last season.

Could 17 games allow either of Seattle's stars to break Baldwin’s record in 2021?

In 1998, Michael Sinclair recorded 16.5 sacks with Seattle to set a franchise record for most in a single season. Though not close to Sinclair’s number, Jamal Adams’ 9.5 sacks in 2020 broke the league’s single-season record for most sacks by a defensive back.
