DeAndre Hopkins follows in footsteps of DK Metcalf, Russell Wilson, starts Kyler Murray for MVP campaign

There have only been two games so far in the 2020 NFL season, but Russell Wilson’s teammates know what’s in front of them: Wilson is playing like the Most Valuable Player.

The Seahawks franchise quarterback is building his strongest MVP case yet after two immaculate performances over the Patriots and Falcons. Wilson is 52-of-63 passing for 610 yards with nine touchdowns and an interception through the first two weeks. He's completed 82.5 percent of his passes and accumulated a passer rating of 140, both numbers lead the NFL.

Simply put, Russ is cooking.

His teammates DK Metcalf and Jamal Adams know Wilson is just as DangeRuss as advertised and started up a Russell Wilson for MVP campaign to make sure everyone in the sports world is paying attention.

Apparently, everyone was.

Hours later, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins proceeded to start up an MVP campaign of his own… for quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray could be a darkhorse candidate for NFL MVP. Like Wilson, Murray has been dazzling in the desert. The second year QB led his Cardinals to a 2-0 start and came away with another stellar performance on Sunday, finishing 26-of-38 for 286 yards through the air and 66 yards rushing on seven carries with a touchdown and an interception.

But… Murray has never won a Super Bowl and the Cardinals finished 5-10-1 in 2019 with no playoff seeding to fight. Murray & Co. have a lot to prove before the MVP votes come pouring in.

Just ask Wilson, who hasn’t gotten a single MVP vote throughout his illustrious nine-year career, which includes a Rookie of the Year nod, seven Pro Bowls, All-Pro honors, a Super Bowl championship… should we go on?

Look-- we’re all for a Battle of the Birds twice a year, but Wilson vs. Murray isn’t an MVP conversation we’re willing to entertain. There's only one clear-cut frontrunner here through two games, and it's undeniably Wilson.
