When one thinks about NFL rivalries, a number of match-ups come to mind: The Chiefs and the Ravens, the Cowboys and the Eagles, the Patriots and the Jets.
When it comes to individual duels: Tom Brady vs. Payton Manning, Richard Sherman vs. Michael Crabtree, Steve Smith vs. Aqib Talib.
But, a new one may be brewing: Seahawks WR DK Metcalf vs. Rams CB Jalen Ramsey.
Metcalf is having an incredible season for Seattle. In just his second season, the Ole Miss product has 1223 yards on 74 receptions and 10 touchdowns. He's had five games with over 100 yards receiving and two games with over 10 catches. This past week, he was selected to his first Pro Bowl.
That success didn't come from facing the LA Rams, however.
Held to a season-low in receptions with just two in Week 10, Metcalf had trouble getting free from another Pro Bowler: Rams CB and four-time Pro Bowler Jalen Ramsey.
According to Pro Football Focus, Ramsey covered Metcalf on 77.1% of his routes in that game. It was the most Ramsey has attached himself to a receiver all season and allowed zero receptions on two targets. Metcalf finished with just 28 yards receiving in that game.
Now, with the season on the line, the Seahawks and Rams will square off for an unofficial claim on the NFC West.
Will Ramsey shadow Metcalf again on Sunday?
"Maybe," Ramsey joked.
"I live for these type of matchups," Ramsey said, via Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. "I was brought here to stop guys like him."
Ramsey has 38 total tackles this season with one interception.
While he's not picking opposing quarterbacks off like he was earlier in his career, Ramsey makes up for giving receivers fits.
But, there's only so many times one can win the battle over a 6-foot-4 and 229 pound receiver with a 6'11" wingspan.
Regardless of height and weight differences or how many Pro Bowls each have under their belts, this match-up is incredibly compelling and one that will be key to either team's success on Sunday.
