Social media can be a great way to keep up with the latest news.
Breaking news can spread to the masses immediately.
It's both a blessing and a curse.
While it's great to have that ability to hear about things instantly, it is also a place where fake accounts can flourish, tricking people into a false reality.
That's what happened Monday morning, centering around the Seahawks and free agent K.J. Wright.
The Seattle Seahawks still haven’t signed the veteran linebacker to a deal. It's the biggest news still yet to drop during the Seahawks offseason.
On Monday, Seahawks fans looked to have gotten the news they were looking for about Wright.
At first glance, it looks like the actual Seahawks PR page tweeting out the news.
The once you click on the link, it shows an article stating that Wright is re-signing. It's on the Seahawks official website.
But, Wright didn't re-sign.
The article was from when Wright signed with the Seahawks back in 2019…
The Seahawks PR account is @SeahawksPR and NOT @PRSeahawks.
It happens to the best of us.
Moments later, Wright himself even chimed in on the account making it seem like he had signed with the Seahawks.’
It did get some people.
But alas, it is fake news at this moment in time.
Hopefully, the Seahawks and Wright can work out a deal before the season gets going again.
And hopefully it's actually from the real Seahawks PR account.
