The final regular-season game between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers will be without a familiar face at the quarterback position.
In their Week 8 matchup, Jimmy Garoppolo struggled through the first three-quarters of their loss before he was finally relieved by Nick Mullens.
Since the Week 8 loss against the Seahawks, Garoppolo has not seen the field and was placed on injured reserve.
the 49ers last week did open up the practice window for Garoppolo for a potential return against the Seahawks, but it seems that the door for that possibility of that is closed.
Per Matt Marocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that Garoppolo will not play on Sunday, ending his season altogether.
Garoppolo only started six games this entire season, with a completion rating of 67% and with only seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
The quarterback that will be starting on Sunday against the 49ers will be C.J. Beathard, who is making his second start of the season. This will also be his second career start agains the Seahawks.
Beathard passed for 182 yards and three touchdowns in the 20-12 win over the Cardinals in Week 16.
The Seahawks defense will look to most likely pressure Beathard as much as possible.
Depending on how the game goes, the Seahawks could also look to throw in players from their bench in order to save their starters for the postseason ahead.
