Last Tuesday, newly acquired defensive end Aldon Smith turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection to an alleged battery in New Orleans.
Just days before initial reports surfaced of the alleged incident earlier, Smith signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks.
Obviously, that put the Seahawks right in the middle of it.
At the time, the team said they were gathering information.
And now, a week later and a day ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, general manager John Schneider didn’t have much to add
“In terms of his current situation, that is not something we can talk about," said Schneider. “We have to let the legal process take its course.”
Smith allegedly assaulted a male acquaintance in Chalmette, La., which is east of New Orleans.
NBC affiliate WDSU of New Orleans reported that the DA's office said the incident was captured on camera.
So, Schneider is taking his time with this one.
In the past, Smith pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges in 2018 after organically facing domestic violence charges.
His sentence included 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling.
