Pete Carroll’s son leaving Seahawks, joining Arizona coaching staff

Brennan Carroll is headed to the desert.

Carroll, the son of Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and Seattle’s current running game coordinator, has been hired by The University of Arizona as the new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He will be reunited with newly-hired head coach Jedd Fisch, who hopes to bring success to a team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2017.

"Brennan and I have known each other for over 10 years and worked together during the 2011 and 2012 seasons," Fisch said in a statement via the University of Arizona Athletics. "I am excited to build this offense together. He has incredible experience, grew up in a football house, been trained by the very best in the business, and has seen a culture of winning his whole life. Brennan's positive attitude is matched by his football acumen. Our offensive linemen will be trained to become professionals both on and off the field…

I am excited to work hand in hand with Brennan on developing an offensive system to bring back the winning traditions of Arizona Football.

- Jedd Fisch on hiring of Brennan Carroll

Carroll, 41, will join the Arizona coaching staff after spending the past six seasons with the Seahawks. He has been instrumental in the Seattle’s offensive success. In the last three years, the team has ranked in the top five in rushing and was the top rushing offense in the NFL in 2018.

Prior to arriving in Seattle, Carroll began his coaching career at USC, where he spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as a graduate assistant before being promoted to the Trojans' tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for six seasons.

Carroll also spent four seasons as recruiting coordinator and coaching tight ends and receivers at Miami, where Fisch served as the Hurricanes’ offensive coordinator.

"I'm humbled and honored to become a part of the University of Arizona," Carroll said in a statement via the University of Arizona Athletics. "Having the opportunity to be reunited with Coach Fisch and his family was something my family and I had always hoped for. I have always had tremendous respect for the Pac-12 Conference and loved my time competing in this league. The opportunity be a part of the growth of this program was something I could not pass up...

This is a great time to be a part of the Wildcat Family, and my family and I can't wait to get to Tucson.

Both Fisch and Carroll will have their work cut out for them after the Wildcats suffered a brutal 70-7 beatdown by rival, Arizona State and went 0-5 in the shortened Pac-12 season.

Brennan will remain with the Seahawks throughout the remainder of the season, Pete Carroll said this week. Seattle will wrap up its regular season on Sunday at the San Francisco 49ers, before gearing up for the postseason. The Seahawks could be the first, second or third seed in the NFC depending on the outcome of Sunday's games.
