After an offseason of trade rumors and speculation involving a blockbuster deal involving Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks franchise quarterback is expected to report to the team’s Organized Training Activities (OTAs) starting Monday.
As Jake Heaps of 710 ESPN Seattle noted, Wilson shared a video to his Instagram story on Sunday night as he returned to Seattle. The short clip featured a plane flying over the Puget Sound that also included a view of Lumen Field as well as the Space Needle with the caption “about that time.”
Late last month, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he support players’ decisions to sit out of the team’s ongoing OTAs, however, he believed there would be “pretty darn good” attendance ahead of mandatory minicamp from June 15-17.
“Our activities will pick up as we get closer to minicamp,’’ he said. “We expect a pretty darn good attendance at minicamp, there are a couple of guys that have some special situations, but for the most part we expect most of our guys to be there. The week before is really important week as well in preparation for it. We’ll see more guys coming through as we get to the middle of June.”
As many as 40 players, mostly rookies, attended sessions at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, while others took part in virtual sessions and offseason training in other locations.
Like he does each summer, Wilson has been down in Southern California honing his craft.
“Russ has had a number of guys come work out down where he is in San Diego,” Carroll said on May 27. “The quarterback position for us is very competitive. This is a really cool time for these guys to learn the offense, learning Shane [Waldron], and picking up on the stuff we have adapted. It’s a fun challenge for these guys and they’re taking it to heart.”
As ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported, Wilson won’t be the only veteran to take part in OTAs in the coming days. Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner will also rejoin the team.
The Seahawks have one more week of voluntary OTAs with the media having scheduled access on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
