Seahawks request permission to interview Saints QB coach Joe Lombardi-- report

A little over a week removed from parting ways with their offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, the list of replacements continues to grow for the Seattle Seahawks.

Former head coaches Doug Pederson, Adam Gase and Anthony Lynn are up for consideration, as are assistant coaches Kirby Wilson and Mike Kafka.

On Friday, another name emerged.

According to Jeff Duncan from the Athletic, the Seahawks and the Chargers have requested permission to interview New Orleans Saints quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi.

Lombardi has been with the Saints as their quarterbacks' coach for the past five seasons. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions for just two seasons under Jim Caldwell.

Although Lombardi may a ton of years under his belt running an offense, his relationship with top notch quarterbacks (Drew Brees, Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan) may be intriguing.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson had a close relationship with Schottenheimer, and the hope may be that he can grow one with Lombardi.

The Seahawks are certainly casting their net wider and wider as the days go on for the search for a new OC.

Only time will tell when the Seahawks make the hire, as the NFL season has about three weeks remaining before a long offseason begins.
