Ugo Amadi ‘lives for’ preseason matchup vs. Justin Herbert

Seahawks

As Ugo Amadi begins to prepare for his third season with the Seattle Seahawks, like many NFL players, he can’t help but look at the league’s schedule.

Now that the Seattle Seahawks regular-season schedule has been unveiled, he has one game in particular circled on his calendar, and it’s in the preseason.

To close out the preseason, the Seahawks will welcome Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers to Lumen Field on Saturday Aug. 28 at 7:00 p.m.

“It will be fun to play against my man Herbert,” Amadi told Justin Myers on NBC Sports’ The Bridge. “I used to love playing against him in college. Man, we used to come up to each other after every series we had with the 1s. Like, Ugo how’d you know this is coming? Or tell me, hey, this is what you should do on the defense to tilt it, give it away for the quarterback...

It’s going to be like coming back at the satellite days, being in the backyard playing football again together, but those are things you live for.

- Ugo Amadi

Amadi will suit up for the Seahawks for the third year since he was selected out of Oregon in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With Marquise Blair sidelined last season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 2, Amadi thrived at the nickel spot, but his role is less clear heading into the 2021 NFL season with Blair coming back and the competition expected to heat up.

As for Herbert, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after his first season. In 15 games, he completed 66.6 percent of his throws for 4,336 yards and recorded 31 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions. He broke just about every single rookie record out there, only falling short of Andrew Luck’s single-season passing yards record.

While the Chargers won’t likely play their star QB, the idea of Herbert vs. Amadi is certainly an intriguing one. With Lumen Field only 283 miles north of Eugene, Oregon, the matchup will likely be one that draws in Ducks fans.
