Grading the Seattle Seahawks at the halfway point
The Seattle Seahawks have officially hit the halfway point of the NFL season, which means it’s time to hand out some grades.
In the latest Talkin’ Seahawks podcast, Joe Fann dishes out his grades by position. While the Seahawks are 6-2, there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
Let’s take a look at the grades for each position through eight weeks.
“The only reason this team is 6-2 is because of Russell Wilson. You just can't say enough good things about the dude. He has just been remarkable throughout the entire year. Add three rushing touchdowns to it. Every week this dude has a couple of throws where you are just like "oh my goodness." He is not human.”
Running back: B
“It would be an A, if not for the fumbling issues for Chris Carson at the beginning of the season. He’s been unbelievable in recent weeks. Again, it’s not just the numbers, but it’s the style and it’s the physicality.”
Wide receivers: B+
“Tyler Lockett’s just so darn good. 615 yards, four touchdowns. He’s on pace for 1,200 yards—his first 1,000 yard season. He’s well on his way. It’s just the efficiency with him.”
“DK Metcalf, 23 catches, 402 yards, 4 touchdowns. But I think a fantastic rookie year for him. I think that’s all you could have expected from DK Metcalf…If he can continue to be a redzone target, especially in the absence of Will Dissly, that’s gonna be huge.”
“Jaron Brown, David Moore…you still just need consistency from them.”
Tight end: B+
“Man this was an easy A before Will Dissly went down, so I guess you say B+, A-. But the second half of the season, you expect these grades to be a D, what C-? Luke Willson, Jacob Hollister just aren’t the same player.”
Offensive line: C
“Giving up 19 sacks, not great. You lose Justin Britt, not great. D.J. Fluker in and out of the lineup and very inconsistent. Germain Ifedi has been very inconsistent. Duane Brown hasn’t been himself, missed games with a biceps injury. Mike Iupati is what he is...”
Defensive line: D (if not an F)
“I am in full blown panic mode on the pass rush. I don’t know if you can count on anything from Ziggy Ansah. If it’s just Jadeveon Clowney vs. everybody, advantage the opponent.”
“In general, the linebackers have been underwhelming. You haven’t seen, as Bobby Wagner said, you need to see more in terms of sacks, game-changing plays, takeaways, all of that. I just don’t think it’s been there.”
Defensive backs: B
“Shaq Griffin has just been so good, really taking a step forward. He should be a Pro Bowl corner this year. Before being out this week against the Falcons, Tre Flowers had two great weeks back-to-back."
“The safety play, it’s just alarming. Tedric Thompson isn’t the guy and Marquise Blair hopefully is. Hopefully Quandre Diggs can provide a lift for this team. From a Tedric Thompson, Bradley McDougald standpoint, both those guys, very underwhelming."
Special teams: C
“Jason Myers still just 10 of 13 on the year for 77 percent, good not great. Yesterday was a big game for him. Finally making a kick of 50-plus yards, but he’s been inconsistent. Michael Dickson, great game yesterday, but he’s been inconsistent up until that point.”
