NFL News and Rumors: Is DangerRuss MVP material?
Seahawks vs. Packers
The Seattle Seahawks lackluster start against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night ended with a thrilling 27-24 comeback victory.
Wilson led his Seahawks to a go-ahead touchdown drive, which sent Aaron Rodgers and co. packing.
This week, we will look exclusively at the NFL News and Rumors surrounding the Packers and Seahawks following the Thursday Night Football showdown.
- Russell Wilson- a legit MVP candidate?
- How much time will Jimmy Graham miss?
- Is Mike McCarthy’s job security evaporating?
- Is it time to give up on Rodgers and the Packers?
Russell Wilson was Russell Wilson again
Russell Wilson was the closer the Seahawks needed against the Packers. With just 5 minutes left in the game, the Seahawks trailed 24-20 at the Green Bay 15-yard line on a third-and-long.
Wilson miraculously found a hole in the defense, striking tight end Ed Dickson, who ran it into the end zone for the Seahawks winning touchdown.
The Seahawks may be just 5-5 on the year, but with their playoff hopes still alive, could Wilson turn around the season and make his case for NFL MVP?
Colin Liotta of USA Today’s Touchdown Wire noted Wilson may not be one of the favorites to win the NFL’s MVP award, but he certainly deserves consideration after Thursday’s performance.
More bad news for Packers: Jimmy Graham dealing with broken thumb
Packers tight end Jimmy Graham, who formerly played for the Seahawks from 2015-17, suffered a fractured thumb in Thursday loss, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
It’s unclear whether or not Graham will be able to play through the injury, or if he’ll be sidelined for at least a part of the remainder of the season.
Graham currently ranks second on the team in receiving with 34 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns.
Will Mike McCarthy soon be out of a job?
The Packers are 4-5-1 this season with a 0-5 road record. If it’s not already obvious, Mike McCarthy’s job is on the line.
ESPN Rob Demovsky asked McCarthy if he was concerned about this coaching future on Friday:
“I’m focused on what’s in front of us. Every individual on the inside, particularly the football team, we have a 2018 commitment, and that all I’ve ever focused on," McCarthy said.
In his 13-year career, McCarthy has led the Packers to one Super Bowl title and nine playoff appearances. Green Bay is in danger of missing the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time in his career.
Are the Packers wasting Aaron Rodgers’ time?
The Seahawks game-winning touchdown with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Packers and Aaron Rodgers plenty of time for a comeback.
Instead, the Green Bay offense went three and just like that the Packers fell to 4-5-1 on the season.
Mark Maske of the Washington Post noted the Packers missed playoff appearance in 2017 due to Rodgers’ broken collarbone.
This year? He says the Packers are wasting 34-year-old Rodgers’ time.
