Position battles, injury updates and what’s going on with Dez Bryant
Are you counting down the days until the NFL regular season kicks off? Even though we are still weeks away from the start of the 2018 season, there are plenty of storylines and questions marks leading up to when the games matter and we want to keep you in the know.
In Wednesday’s NFL Roundup you’ll get caught up on Seahawks position battles and the latest injuries.
Plus, does anyone know where free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant is going to end up? Pro Football Talk has an idea. We’ve got all that and more around the league.
Seahawks fans should be on the lookout
This week, our Seahawks Insider Aaron Fentress couldn’t help but notice who Russell Wilson was targeting in practice.
“The Seahawks' ended practice with wide receiver Brandon Marshall hauling in a long touchdown pass from Russell Wilson that led to celebration resembling those that follow game-winning plays.
The reason could be that a healthy Marshall, coming off of a severe ankle injury last season, working with with No. 1 receiver Doug Baldwin - out with a knee injury but, according to coach Pete Carroll, will play in the opener - and the speedy Tyler Lockett would give the Seahawks a formidable trio of receivers.
But don't stop there.”
There’s quite a right tackle battle in Seattle
Longtime Seahawks reporter Gregg Bell has been all over the Hawks position battles as preseason practices rolls along and he knows that fans have been waiting for this competition at right tackle.
“Maybe the Seahawks heard you.
More likely, they’d seen enough of the pass-protection issues—and enough of George Fant’s return from reconstructive knee surgery last August to believe he’s now ready to compete at right tackle.
Fant, the former college basketball power forward who was the starting left tackle as an undrafted rookie in 2016, moved from left to right tackle for the first time Tuesday in practice.”
Who on the Seahawks injured list will be ready to go?
As ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes that receiver Doug Baldwin (knee) and running back Rashaad Penny (finger) will be ready for the Seahawks’ Sept. 9th opener at Denver. But coach Carrol wasn’t as confident about defensive end Dion Jordan (leg).
With starters injured in preseason, that as meant backups are getting in a good run.
SI.com’s Robert Klemko gives his opinion on the backup situation…
“With Rashaad Penny out with a broken finger and Earl Thomas holding out, Seattle is forced to lean on their backups more. Are Carson and Thompson ready for their time in the spotlight?”
Are the Patriots considering adding Dez Bryant?

Could it be with New England?
Patriots fans are looking for more wide receivers and Bryant is looking for a job, but was does Pro Football Talk’s Peter King think about New England being the potential landing spot for the 29-year-old?
