Timbers move kickoff time to deal with local heatwave

The heat is rising in PDX.

Temperatures reached around 90 degrees on Tuesday, and it's only going to get hotter.

Local weather forecasts predict that it could hit 107 degrees this weekend.

With that in mind, the Timbers are taking action to keep players and fans alike safe from the elements ahead of their match against Minnesota FC on Saturday.

Originally set for 7:30 pm, the kickoff will be moved to at least 8:00 pm to allow Providence Park to cool down.

The Timbers released the following statement:

"The Portland Timbers today announced that the kickoff time for their match against Minnesota United FC at Providence Park on Saturday, June 26, has been changed to 8 p.m. (Pacific). Originally scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), the kickoff time was pushed back due to an excessive heat forecast for the Portland area."

Temperatures are supposed to be over 100 degrees Saturday, Sunday, and Monday around the Portland metro area.
