Damian Lillard frequently gives back to his hometown of Oakland, his college town of Ogden, and Portland, the city he calls home as star of the Portland Trail Blazers.
But recently, according to Philippines network News 5, the Trail Blazers guard made his impact felt overseas.
After a fire broke out on May 15 on the third floor of the Philippine General Hospital resulting in the facility having to evacuate as many as 35 newborns, Ang Probinsyano, Rep. Ronnie Ong and actress Yassi Pressman began collecting donations which reportedly included a “generous amount,” from the Trail Blazers superstar.
“Also, huge thank you to big brother @damianlillard for sending over such a generous amount, kahit na wala siya sa Pilipinas, just to be able to help,” Pressman said in an Instagram post.
News 5 said that the fire caused damages to equipment, infrastructure and supplies. Considering PGH is also the country’s largest COVID-19 referral facility, Lillard thrusted into action to support the Philippine community.
Over the years, Lillard has visited the Philippines on multiple occasions. He played in a two-day basketball event in Manila in 2014, and returned to the Philipines in 2016 as part of the Adidas Take on Summer tour to promote his D Lillard 2 sneakers.
News 5 reports the cash donations from Lillard and Pressman equated to P1 million, or $20,986 USD.
