The Trail Blazers have not yet completed all the final interviews for their vacant head coaching job, sources confirmed Friday. Chauncey Billups, Becky Hammon and Mike D'Antoni are among those known to be finalists for the job. D'Antoni, it has been reported, "performed very well" in his interview.
It is also known, as reported here previously, that there have been others interviewed whose names have not become known -- and likely will not be known, due to their current coaching situations. For example, if they talked with a top-level college coach who might fear it would affect recruiting if it was known he was interested in a jump to the NBA.
There has been confusion about whether the team could name its new coach if that person is still active as an assistant coach in the playoffs. However, league sources say that it could be done if, for example, the Trail Blazers decide to name Clippers' assistant Chauncey Billups their new coach.
It is expected the hiring will be announced by early next week.
