Carmelo Anthony is not with the Portland Trail Blazers as the team prepares for Monday evening's matchup at the Los Angeles Lakers, the team announced Sunday.
The only reason provided was due to “health and safety protocols.” No further information was given.
In two games, Anthony has averaged 10.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 22.5 minutes off the bench.
The ten-time All-Star re-signed with the Blazers for a veteran's minimum contract this past offseason with the understanding Melo would come off of the bench.
The Blazers signed Anthony midseason to start during the 2019-20 season due to injuries to the frontcourt. Anthony played well averaging 15.4 points in 58 starts.
Portland takes on the defending champion Lakers at Staples Center on Monday, December 28th at 7:00 p.m. PT here on NBC Sports NW, the official home of the Portland Trail Blazers.
