There’s a new Carmelo Anthony in town. ‘Skinny Melo’ was so two months ago and now ‘Gym Melo’ has surfaced.
A video was posted by NBA Skills Coach Chris Brickley on Thursday of the 17-year All-Star getting shots up in the gym and social media absolutely loved it. Melo looked like he picked up right where he left off in the NBA ‘Bubble’ when the Portland Trail Blazers fought their way to the eight seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
Here is the exact drill broken down:
- Hit a three-pointer
- One dribble pull up from 5 spots without missing two in a row
- If you miss two shots in a row, start the drill over
“Carmelo Anthony killed it with only 3 misses putting himself into ‘pressure situations,’” said Chris Brickley on Instagram.

One of the biggest decisions and offseason moves on the table for the Trail Blazers is the possibility of re-signing Anthony to a contract in Portland. Melo stated that his basketball career isn’t done yet and expressed his desire to remain in Rip City.
“I pray that it can be Portland. Honestly, I think that I found a home in Portland,” said Melo after the Trail Blazers were eliminated in the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers. “I got comfortable with the organization. I got comfortable with the guys on the team. They got comfortable with me. At this point in my career, I do think that's the best fit for me... I really hope it can be Portland at the end of the day.”
In 58 regular-season games with the Blazers, Melo averaged 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The 36-year-old still wants to play and his offseason work ethic proves it. Will that opportunity be waiting in Portland once again? TBD.
