It was a good night if your name is Melo.
Just days after LaMelo Ball was stealing Carmelo Anthony's iconic 3 to the dome celebration, the 18-year NBA veteran reminded the rookie that he can still hang with the NBA’s elite.
In a Melo vs. Melo showdown at Moda Center, Carmelo Anthony dropped a season-high 29 points and had five steals on Monday night. It was Melo’s first career game with five-plus three and five-plus steals.
"I like the way Melo stuck with it," Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts said in his post-game interview. "He got off to a slow start in the first half, but he ended up making a lot of plays in the first half. Obviously, shooting in the second half really got us over the hump, so I always like it no matter who it is, but when Melo can get on a roll, it's fun to watch."
Ball recorded 30 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals for the Hornets. But it was all love between the rookie and the vet, who swapped jerseys after the game.
Game recognize game.
The two NBA stars also showed love to one another before tip off.
Ultimately it was Carmelo Anthony and the Trail Blazers who walked away with the 123-111 win in Portland, but both Melo’s won the day on Monday night.
