CJ McCollum changes his mind on Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics

Olympics

Last week, Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum was training in New York City, as he typically does in the offseason. He has also been able to get in a lot of boxing as he continues to ramp up his workouts with the season getting closer and closer.

But McCollum also took time to record the latest Pull Up Podcast where he discussed all things free agency as well as what he thinks of Team USA’s chances against France in Friday’s gold medal contest.

More than anything McCollum believes that during training camp, Team USA woke up following their 90-87 exhibition loss to Nigeria and a 91-83 exhibition loss to Australia.

“I think that Team USA will win gold in the Olympics,” McCollum stated. “Originally, I said they were a bronze team based on how they were performing, the situation around COVID, the rotation, it just seemed like they didn’t have a sense of urgency.”

I think that those couple of losses early against Nigeria, the loss to Australia, I think that was a great lesson for them overall and what needs to be done in order to win.

Now that the United States men’s basketball team has overcome its pre-Olympic woes, they will be competing for Olympic gold on Friday against France following the Americans' 97-78 victory over Australia in the semifinals.

The U.S. outscored the Australians 32-10 in the third.

As for France, they are led by Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier. The team narrowly beat Luka Doncic and Slovenia in the semifinal matchup, 90-89.

I’m pulling up on that – I think the USA gets its revenge and beats France.
