CJ McCollum responds to rookie Anthony Edwards calling out Damian Lillard's rap game

Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum has had teammate Damian Lillard’s back for the last six seasons now.

And Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards learned that if you mess with Lillard, McCollum isn’t going to hold back.

On the latest episode of Complex's "Load Management" podcast, McCollum had choice words for Edwards, who claims that he is a better rapper than Dame D.O.L.L.A. himself.

Instead of focusing on rapping, McCollum suggested that the 19-year-old SEC Freshman of the Year work on his jumper before anything else.

He better work on that jumper. Better be working on them shuffles, because he can't run in the West.

Of course NBA Twitter tried to make the comments more dramatic than they were and the Blazers shooting guard immediately shut that rumor train down.

Look, Edwards can rap fairly well. Be the judge yourself. But I personally can see that he has some talent in that department.

Here is the thing, though: Lillard has been solidified by other rappers in the game, and also drops some bars with greats like Lil Wayne. Sometimes a rookie needs to know their place.

Lillard is All-Star on the court and is an accomplished rapper off the court. What has Edwards done besides that freestyle video he made? That answers your questions right there.

McCollum was just doing what any teammate would do, which is state the obvious to a rookie who has a long journey ahead of him in the NBA.

The Timberwolves and Trail Blazers should be a fun matchup when the NBA gets up and running again in December.
