Rip City knows that Damian Lillard often uses what people say to motivate him even more.
And that goes for what people say on social media.
When someone starts trash talking to Lillard on Twitter, he not only replies on social media, he typically responds on the court as well.
Trail Blazers fans usually enjoy the Twitter interactions.
But now we know that Lillard is one of the most sought-after professional athletes who are targeted on social media and not in a good way.
Lillard ranks No. 6 out of all professional athletes that receive social media abuse according to a new study.
What determines such a category?
The recent study was conducted by Pickswise, an online outlet for sports picks and betting tips, who determined the number of abusive messages that an athlete receives.
The data was collected over the past year and included Twitter posts with words, phrases and hashtags that used abusive terms directed at athletes, according to Pickswise.
LeBron James was well ahead of the pack with 122,568 messages aimed at him, while Soccer star Marcus Rashford received the second most at 32,328 messages, and it was Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady who rounded out the top three with 28,151.
