Lillard reportedly wants Jason Kidd or Chauncey Billups as next Blazers coach

Trail Blazers

The Trail Blazers announced Friday evening that they and Terry Stotts have mutually parted ways

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski immediately sent out possible replacement candidates of Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups, along with Jeff Van Gundy, Mike D’Antoni, and Michigan’s Juwan Howard.

But there was one name missing from the list that Damian Lillard is reportedly looking for the Blazers to take a chance on.

In a recent report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Lillard told Haynes that “Jason Kidd is the guy I want.”

Haynes had already linked Kidd to the list of potential coaching candidates for the Blazers earlier in the day.

Kidd is currently a Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach.

Before joining the Lakers, the NBA Hall of Famer had served as the head coach for Brooklyn (2013-14) and Milwaukee (2014-2018). He was fired after 3.5 seasons as the Bucks head coach.

Kidd compiled an overall record of 183 wins and 190 losses in his coaching career with the Nets and Bucks.

Lillard respects Kidd’s knowledge of the game and according to Haynes, the Blazers six-time All-Star believes Kidd “can help take his game and the team to the next level.”

Kidd isn't the only former NBA point guards on Lillard's reported list of possible candidates.

The Blazers are "increasingly expected" to hire Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups or Kidd, according to Shams Charania and Jason Quick of The Athletic

“I like J. Kidd and Chauncey,” Lillard told The Athletic

In November of 2020, Billups was hired as an assistant under Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue.
