While Portland Trail Blazers six-time All-star point guard Damian Lillard gears up to help Team USA in the gold medal game against Team France, Lillard spoke on the Blazers free agent moves.
Following Team USA’s practice Friday, Lillard was asked about free agency with the Blazers re-signing Norman Powell, yet Portland’s key bench contributors from a season ago in Carmelo Anthony and Enes Kanter moved on from Rip City.
"Honestly I haven’t really dove too deep into it. I’ve really been focusing on [being] here," Lillard said Friday on a USA Basketball zoom call.
"There are a lot of things that are out of my control. When you go into free agency and things like this, you never know what’s going to happen. You never know where guys are going to end up and why they go there. You just try to have conversations and convince guys to be a part of our team."
As the Blazers transfer to a new era on the coaching front with Chauncey Billups taking over duties as first-time head coach, Portland brought in free agents Ben McLemore, Cody Zeller, and Tony Snell.
When discussing the Blazers latest acquisitions, Lillard kept it real with his comments.
"You know, you go down the list and you go through the guys you like that are out there that haven’t committed to another team or that was a part of your plans in free agency and you get the ones that want to be a part of what you are doing, and I think that’s what we did," Lillard added.
But, as the Blazers captain speaks on the latest Blazers moves, it’s all business for Lillard as he and Team USA take on France in the gold medal game Friday night at 7:30p.m. PT.
