Damian Lillard to wear No. 6 at Tokyo Olympics

Trail Blazers

We all know Trail Blazers PA Announcer Mark Mason's introduction of Damian Lillard. "At guard, 6'3" from Weber State, wearing the letter O, Damian Lillard!"

Lillard’s goal of playing for USA Basketball came true last month, as he was named to the 12-man roster that’ll compete at the Tokyo Olympics.

The members all selected their jersey numbers for international play and Lillard chose... No. 6.

Blazers team reporter Casey Holdahl originally reported the news back in June.

A number recently by DeAndre Jordan during the 2016 Olympics and LeBron James when he competed internationally in 2008 and 2012. For the 'Dream Team' in 1992, the number was worn by former New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing.

In past Team USA camps and exhibitions, Lillard has donned both the No. 16 and 22. Per FIBA and Team USA rules, players can only select uniform numbers between 4 and 15 for the Olympics.

The team’s Las Vegas training camp is from July 6-18. All members are expected to be there except Devin Booker, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday, who are competing in the NBA Finals

If the Bucks vs. Suns series extends to a seventh game, all three players would’ve missed the entire camp.

Looking to win their fourth straight gold medal, the team will play an exhibition game in four days against Nigeria.

July 10 -- U.S. men vs. Nigeria.

July 12 -- U.S. men vs. Australia.

July 13 -- U.S. men vs. Argentina.

July 16 -- U.S. women vs. Australia.

July 18 -- U.S. women vs. Nigeria.

When the Olympics begin later this month, USA Basketball will be in Group A with France, Czech Republic, and Iran.
