Damian Lillard wishes Adidas didn’t choose buzzer beater vs. Thunder for new shoes

Some may think Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard was trolling Oklahoma City Thunder fans with the release of his new Adidas shoes, but Lillard has made it clear he isn’t trying to take any more “bad shots” at Thunder fans.

When discussing the new blue and orange shoes designed to commemorate Lillard’s 50-point performance and series winning buzzer-beater over Paul George and the Thunder, the Trail Blazers guard explained Adidas hand-picked the iconic NBA moment, not him.

“It’s a series of shoes Adidas has been working on where they’re acknowledging guys with the brand’s 50-point games,” Lillard said Sunday night. “It wasn’t just my shoe. It was other guys across the brand. I think you should be expecting shoes like the D’Rose’s, the James Harden’s, guys who score 50 points having a shoe based on that night...

For mine, they chose the OKC game.

It appears the Trail Blazers star is also ready to wave goodbye to the series and the mayhem that ensued since he pulled up from 37-feet in the 2019 NBA playoffs.

“I think I’ve had other games to choose from,” Lillard said. “But I’m ready to let that moment go, so that’s why I would have liked it to be a different game. I don’t want it to come off as I’m just living in the moment from two years ago.

“Honestly, it was a big moment, but it is what it is.”

And what a remarkable moment it was for Rip City. Following Lillard’s 50-point game in the Game 5 first-round series, the Trail Blazers advanced to the Conference Semifinals where they beat the Denver Nuggets in a competitive 7 games. Portland, however, was swept in the Western Conference Finals to the Golden State Warriors.

While it’s unclear whether the Trail Blazers star will debut his new kicks for Monday’s matchup at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Thunder, Oklahoma City fans should find solace in the fact Dame is over the infamous shot.

Can’t say we ever will be, though. Lillard’s clutch game-winner and the "Dame Face" dog pile that ensued moments later will forever go down as one of the best moments in Trail Blazers history.
