In recent history, particularly in the Damian Lillard era, the Trail Blazers have been thought of as being one of the best cultures around the league.
This is a team that prides itself on having great locker room guys who are all on the same page.
The Trail Blazers newest free agent signee, Derrick Jones Jr., has already began to see why Portland and the Blazers organization are considered top-notch by so many.
Jones Jr. even had a hard time putting into words how a team with so many new pieces including himself, Robert Covington and Harry Giles, are able to gel in such a short amount of time.
“I already knew these guys before I came here. I knew of them. So me coming here… in just a short amount of time, we already kind of have a great bond together… I’m speechless. I don’t understand. I don’t know the words that I can put on that right now, but I’m just glad that everything is how it is… I’m loving it.”
Helping out on the wing defensively is a welcomed change, and Jones Jr. is up for that challenge in helping out Lillard and CJ McCollum on the perimeter.
Jones Jr.’s length and defensive skill set, along with his entertaining dunks, are just a few aspects of his game that the Blazers look forward to seeing once he is out on the court in Portland uniform.
Is Jones Jr. comfortable guarding all five positions?
“Of course,” the six-year forward responded quickly.
Just as the 23-year-old forward has the confidence in himself, he also now has the confidence in the Blazers quickly coming together as a cohesive group ahead of Friday’s preseason game against Sacramento.
