Derrick Jones Jr. leaves Blazers-Nuggets game with back contusion

Trail Blazers

Not much was going right for the Trail Blazers in Portland’s final preseason game of the year.

Early in the third quarter, Blazes fans were holding their breath.

It was a scary sight.

Portland was down 82-48 as Trail Blazers forward Derrick Jones Jr. went up for the alley-oop dunk.  Rodney Hood found Jones Jr. going up to the rim.

Jones Jr. threw down the monster dunk, but when he came down, he fell to the floor and was clearly shaken up by the play.

The Blazers announced that Derrick Jones will not return to the game with what they are calling a back contusion.

After sitting on the floor and trying to gather himself, Jones Jr. then was seen heading to the Blazers locker room with the team’s Director of Player Health and Performance Jesse Elis.

Jones Jr. was holding his lower back while he made his way back to the tunnel.
