Enes Kanter will start vs. Hawks Saturday in place of injured Jusuf Nurkic

Saturday's Portland Trail Blazers vs. Atlanta Hawks game marks the first game for Portland without starting center Jusuf Nurkic after Nurkic fractured his right wrist in Thursday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Just hours before the Trail Blazers and Hawks tip off from Moda Center, Portland’s head coach Terry Stotts announced that Enes Kanter will start in place of the injured Nurkic.

Nurkic will reportedly have surgery to repair the fracture.

Coach Stotts said the decision between starting Kanter or Harry Giles was an easy one.

Enes will start. It was a pretty simple evaluation. He was our starting center two years ago in the playoffs when Nurk got hurt last time. So there wasn’t much to evaluate.

On the season through 12 games, Kanter is averaging 10.0 points on an efficient 64.1 percent shooting from the field to go along with 8.9 rebounds per game.

Portland will also be without rookie CJ Elleby (left foot strain) and big man Zach Collins (left ankle stress fracture) for Saturday’s game vs. Atlanta.

The Hawks listed Trae Young (back; tightness) as probable; Cam Reddish (left knee; contusion) as questionable. Bogdan Bogdanovic (right knee; avulsion fracture), Kris Dunn (right ankle; surgery) and Danilo Gallinari (right ankle; sprain) are out.
