Gasol, who played for the Lakers from 2008-14 and became very close with his former teammate the late Kobe Bryant has honored his close friend with the middle name of his daughter.

In Gasol’s social media post announcing the birth of his child, he shared the news of his daughter’s name honoring Gigi.

Elisabet Gianna Gasol, a very meaningful name for our super beautiful daughter!!

The couple has also chosen Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, to be their daughter's godmother, as Vanessa announced on her IG:

"My goddaughter is here!!!! Congratulations @paugasol@catmcdonnell7 Love you 3 so much! So touched by your request to honor my Gigi ❤Can’t wait to hold Elisabet Gianna Gasol.”

Despite never playing a game for the Trail Blazers, Rip City welcomed Pau with open arms last offseason. Trail Blazers fans have also shared their congrats for Gasol and his wife on social media.

The newest addition to the Gasol family was born on Sept. 10, which is a very special day for Pau and his wife as McDonnell revealed in her Instagram post.
