Sunday marked the return of a Trail Blazers fan favorite.
As the DMX song of “Where the Hood at” played loud and proud throughout an empty Moda Center, Trail Blazers wing Rodney Hood made his return to the court.
At the 5:17 mark of the first quarter, Hood subbed in for Jusuf Nurkic.
Hood hasn’t seen NBA action since Dec. 6, 2019 when he suffered a torn Achilles against the Los Angeles Lakers at Moda Center.
Hood worked to stay warm on the sideline before checking into the game. He didn’t take a seat on the bench after introductions, but instead made sure to keep moving while doing squats and lunges on the sideline before checking in.
Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts said pregame, he would like to see Hood, “getting the feel for a game – that’s the main thing with him.”
As for Nurkic, the big fella hasn’t played a game at Moda Center since his gruesome leg injury back on Mar. 25, 2019.
Nurk had a big smile on his face pregame before he was announced as the Blazers starting center once again at Moda Center.
The Trail Blazers big man passed COVID-19 protocol Friday and has yet to practice with the team since he just returned to the Portland market from Bosnia earlier this week.
“He hasn’t had a practice yet,” Coach Stotts said of Nurkic. “I’ll be interested to see his conditioning and see how he feels.”
It wasn’t the same feeling with no fans in attendance, but we know that all of Rip City is happy to see these two get up and down the Moda Center court once again.
