Mariota vs. Carr: Damian Lillard weighs in on Raiders potential QB controversy

Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard is loyal to the soil.

He's a die-hard fan of his hometown Raiders, who have since moved from Oakland to Las Vegas.

No matter what, he remains in his team's corner, even if it's been hard to at times this season.

He called out the team’s Achilles heel, its defense, indicating that the Raiders might have the worst D in the NFL.

And things have been up and down for Raiders starting QB Derek Carr, either.

While he's said he's ‘sick of losing,’ Raiders fans have indicated they're sick of Carr.

Las Vegas Raiders fans called for Marcus Mariota after Derek Carr was sacked three times against the Saints on Monday Night Football.

Well, Thursday night, those people got their wish.

After Mariota battled a pec strain earlier in the season, he was active against the Chargers. When starting QB Derek Carr went down with a groin injury, Mariota stepped into the QB1 role.

And he shined!

Mariota threw a TD pass to Darren Waller on his first drive to put the team up.

He went toe to toe against fellow Oregon Ducks QB Justin Herbert, trading leads eventually ending in a dramatic overtime win for the Chargers.

Mariota night ended 17/28 and 226 yards passing with one touchdown through the air and one interception. The Hawaiian native also added 88 yards rushing on nine carries to lead the Raiders and one touchdown.

With Carr's short-term status unknown, some are wondering if it's time to make the change to Mariota.

Well, super fan Damian Lillard has weighed in.

So, is the hot seat officially on fire for Carr? Will Mariota get another shot to next week against the Dolphins?

Maybe Lillard needs more convincing, but Mariota's play vs. the Chargers is enough to keep the debate between Mariota vs. Carr going.
