Death. Taxes. Jusuf Nurkić getting hit in the face.
It happened again Monday evening in the Trail Blazers 123-114 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, as Nurk was hit in the face by John Collins while making a lay-in. It was ruled a common foul on the floor and Nurkić missed the free-throw.
The next day, the NBA upgraded the foul to a flagrant one.
The NBA rule book states a flagrant foul is "unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent." If the contact was also deemed "excessive," then a flagrant two ruling is approproate and the player would be ejected from the game.
One player accumulating five points (flagrant one = one point, flagrant two = two points) during the regular-season will result in a one-game suspension.
This is the first infraction this season for Collins.
