Portland Trail Blazers fan eats shoe after improbable win in Philadelphia

Despite missing 80% of its starting lineup Thursday afternoon, the Portland Trail Blazers blew out the top team in the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers, to improve to 12-9 Thursday evening.

Yes, the Sixers did not have Ben Simmons but MVP frontrunner Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris both played and that was enough for PointsBet to make Philly 9-point favorites at tipoff. The Blazers won by 16.

The oddsmakers weren't the only ones confident that the 76ers, who had lost once at home all season, would smoke the under-handed Blazers team. One Blazers fan, Peter Reed, tweeted he would eat a shoe if Portland pulled off the upset.

Well, after the game ended, Blazers Twitter had some fun with the bold (and backfired) claim. Even the official Trail Blazers account and center Jusuf Nurkić got in on the fun!

Reed was a man of his word and posted the video within an hour of the Blazers' 12th win of the season, dawning a Brandon Roy jersey and everything. Perhaps it was a tribute to CJ Elleby who had by-far the best game of his career and grew up idolizing the Natural.

"I've always looked at the Trail Blazers as [my] team... just because of Garfield legend and Trail Blazers legend Brandon Roy who has been a coach in the metro league these last few years," said Elleby after being selected by Portland.

"Growing up and hearing stories about him and seeing this legacy that he left behind and that he's continuing to live, it was just inspiring... I watched his highlights and I'm going to watch them actually after we get off this call."

Also, Reed even followed Nurk's advice and added some sauce to the meal.

While he didn't fully eat the shoe, he took a nice, sauce-filled bite so it's NBC Sports NW approved, A for effort.
