The long relationship between the Trail Blazers and shoe juggernaut adidas is not going to end anytime soon.
The Blazers announced on Wednesday that the organization has signed a multi-year contract extension with adidas that will showcase "Damian Lillard’s tie to Oregon and Rip City."
“Our partnership with adidas is a natural fit for both brands,” said Trail Blazers President & CEO Chris McGowan in an official press release. “Being based in Oregon, we have the opportunity to encourage our community to be creative and active through sport, with Damian paving the way.”
The partnership, which started in 2007, makes perfect sense. Not only is adidas North American headquarters just two miles north of Moda Center, but Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is also one of the biggest adidas brand athletes.
With the new deal Rip City Clothing will feature plenty of fresh gear, but that's not the most exciting part. As part of the plan to showcase Damian Lillard, Lillard's signature adidas shoe will be available to purchase in the arena for the very first time. Unfortunately, fans are not allowed in the arena at this time due to COVID-19 safety protocols, but once fans are allowed in they can find their favorite Dame's on the 100 level at Moda Center.
“Our longstanding partnership with the Trail Blazers has been an evolution, with each iteration bringing more excitement and memorable moments to the fans of Rip City,” said Austin Hodges, leader of NBA Marketing for adidas. “We are ecstatic to extend our partnership with the Trail Blazers, further breaking the mold with industry firsts, especially when it comes to in-arena retail.”
According to the team, "The partnership will also be celebrated around the arena, including an industry first with the adidas and Dame 7 logos on the basket pole pads, further integrating the brand and team into the fan experience."
Dame's shoes available for sale, the Dame logo on the stanchion, New Rip City Clothing drops... and that's just the beginning. We can't wait to see what else adidas and the Blazers have planned, especially once fans are allowed back at Moda.
