With hours until the NBA trade deadline, the Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors have reportedly agreed on a deal.
The Trail Blazers are sending Gary Trent and Rodney Hood to Toronto for 6’3” shooting guard Norman Powell, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Powell is having a career scoring season.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the newest Trail Blazer:
2020-21 Season Stats: 19.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists
Current Contract: In the third year of a 4-year, $42M contract with next season being a player-option. On the books for $10.8M this season.
Some may turn their nose up at adding another bench guard to the rotation, but his production for just $10M is unmatched.
He is making the same amount as Rodney Hood, while Hood has averaged 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 38 games this season.
But the big loss for Portland is the promising future of Gary Trent Jr., who was averaging 15.0 points and 2.2 rebounds this season, after becoming a fan favorite last year.
His teammates have already tweeted out about losing him to Toronto.
