The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly finalizing a deal to bring David Fizdale on the staff as an assistant coach.
The Los Angeles native has lots of coaching experience. Fizdale was an assistant with the Golden State Warriors in 2003-04, moved on to the Atlanta Hawks (2004-08) and coached beside Erik Spoelstra in the Lebron James led Miami Heat from 2008 to 2016. He and James built a close relationship and won back-to-back titles in 2012-13.
The 47 year old's first head coaching position came with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2016, but quickly "fizzed" out after being let go when he amassed a 71-134 (.346) record as head coach (2016-18). He was given another chance with the New York Knicks in 2018, but after going 17-65 in the first season and starting off the following season 4-18, he was dismissed once more.
Fizdale was pursued by several teams but decided to join Frank Vogel’s staff.
